The Faculty of Science and the Mathematical Institute at University of Leiden invite applications for a: PhD position in Statistics

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be working on problems related to nonparametric Bayes. This is a relatively new field in mathematical statistics studying the properties of the posterior distribution for nonparametric or highdimensional models (for an introduction you might consult http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/~avdvaart/talks/EMS1.pdf or http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/.)

The PhD project will be carried out with Aad van der Vaart and Johannes Schmidt-Hieber. The position is funded within an ERC Advanced Grant: http://nieuws.leidenuniv.nl/nieuws-2012/erc-grant-voor-statistiek-in-grote-rommelige-datasets.html. There is a large research community in the Netherlands (and in particular in Leiden) closely collaborating on similar projects and regularly joint nationwide seminars are organized (see for instance https://staff.fnwi.uva.nl/b.j.k.kleijn/bc/ ).
