Applications are invited for two 36-month Research Associate positions within the School of Mathematics & Statistics at Newcastle University, UK, to work with Prof Darren Wilkinson on different but related projects involving the use of computational Bayesian methods to address challenging problems in life science research.
D1690R – Research Associate (Statistical Modelling) – http://tinyurl.com/mc7xgk9
A PhD statistician with proven experience in the development of efficient computational Bayesian algorithms is required for an ambitious research project. Ideally you will have experience of applying Bayesian modelling in bioinformatics, genomics or related “big data” applications. You will apply these approaches to challenges in metagenomics using data from high-throughput sequencing technologies. This position arises as part of a joint BBSRC project with the EBI. The tools developed will have real impact as they will be integrated into the EBI Metagenomics Portal ( https://www.ebi.ac.uk/
D1691R – Research Associate (Statistical Modelling) – http://tinyurl.com/kha8hyd
A PhD statistician with proven experience in the development of efficient computational Bayesian algorithms is required to join a large multi-disciplinary team of researchers on an ambitious research project.
Ideally you will have experience of emulation and calibration of computer models. You will apply these approaches to complex multi-scale stochastic biological computer models of environmental processes. You must be capable of working in an interdisciplinary environment, with microbiologists, engineers, modellers and computer scientists. The postholder will be a key member of the Large Scale Modelling Team within the EPSRC-funded NUFEB project (http://research.ncl.ac.uk/
