POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION – 1.5 Year

SURVEILLANCE OF INFLUENZA IN SWINE POPULATIONS USING MULTIPLE DATA STREAMS 

The Department of Population Medicine, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, is seeking applicants for a 1.5-year postdoctoral position on a project entitled Dynamics of Influenza in Swine Populations. The research project is co-founded by the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Ontario Pork and managed through Swine Innovation Porc. The main role of the Postdoctoral Fellow will be to develop an ongoing monitoring system for influenza in swine using existing streams of diagnostic and syndromic data. 

This will include designing access to online data, and their ongoing processing, analysis, and reporting. The Postdoctoral Fellow will assist the PI in establishing and maintaining ongoing collaborations with major stakeholders, present findings to various audiences, conduct other analyses as required by the project, and write papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Applicants must have PhD in epidemiology, statistics, computer science or a related field. Previous experience in working with prospective disease surveillance data, statistical process control, large online databases, computer programming, machine learning, or Bayesian methods would be an asset. Excellent organizational and communication skills are needed.

The position is available immediately for the period of 18 months. The deadline for applications is March 22, 2015 or until the position is filled.
