The Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Modeling is at the moment looking for a skilled and experienced statistician for the development, application, and advice of statistical methods.

The Division of Infection Control and Environmental Health has national responsibility for monitoring and advising in areas of infectious diseases and health damage caused by physical and chemical factors in the environment, or climate change. The position provides the opportunity to work at the intersection between infectious disease – and environmental epidemiology, and statistics, primarily through project based work.

The department consists of about 20 employees with backgrounds in statistics, bioinformatics, modelling, and epidemiology. We have an active research environment and participate in various national and international research projects. Our core activities include the development of statistical and mathematical models for disease surveillance, disease burden estimation, networks and dynamic infection models, as well as their adaptation to data. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is responsible for several national registers in the field of infection control, which are increasingly based on genetic information. At the same time, we are working to include new types of data, such as the use of mobile data and data from social media. The goal is to understand better how pathogenic microorganisms spread in the population and how environmental factors affect the health of the people. The models are widely used to evaluate public health interventions, including vaccine effects, and to inform national decision makers.

We expect that you, as senior researcher, take a leading role in research projects, both in terms of application writing, choice of methods, and project coordination. The position also involves ad hoc supervision and the opportunity for participation in the department’s teaching assignments.
