Within the framework of its strategic planning, University Medical Centre Göttingen (UMG) is pursuing the development of its focal research areas neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology
consistently by integrating translational and systems medicinal approaches. The UMG is closely
interconnected with the University faculties in the natural and biosciences, as well as the non-university
research institutions on the Göttingen Campus.

The Department of Medical Statistics at the UMG is currently seeking applicants for the position of a

junior professorship
in biostatistics
(salary grade W1 tenure track W2)

 

to be filled as soon as possible. The appointment is initially for the duration of three years, with a view to
extending the position for a further three years on the basis of a positive interim evaluation. Positive
assessment of the second period as a junior professor will be followed by appointment to a permanent
W2 professorship.

The junior professorship is associated with the task of setting up and leading a junior research workgroup on biostatistics at the Department of Medical Statistics (Director: Professor Tim Friede). Applicants will be expected to have completed an academically outstanding PhD or equivalent research thesis in the field of statistics, mathematics, informatics, or another related subject including strong quantitative components, along with relevant experience in the field of biostatistics. The latter should be documented in the form of independent scientific research in the field as well as appropriate publications. The methodological profile of applicants should usefully complement currently existing research foci in the Department. Experience in the development of methods relating to planning and evaluating clinical trials during the early phases of development in particular, diagnostic trials, as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses is explicitly desired. Furthermore, experience in teaching and an interest in collaborations within the research foci of the UMG are expected.

In addition to the degrees in human medicine and dentistry, the Faculty of Medicine also offers the degree in molecular medicine and participates in a number of international and interfaculty degree courses on offer, including the master’s degree course in applied statistics and the doctorate degree course in applied statistics and empirical methods in the cross-faculty Centre for Statistics. Participation in these degree courses is desired.

The requirements for employment pertaining to junior professorships are laid out in §30 of the Higher
Education Act of the Federal State of Lower Saxony (NHG) in its current applicable version. The UMG is
empowered to appoint professorships.
