The Position
The Department of Biostatistics at the Erasmus Medical Center (Erasmus University), Rotterdam, the
Netherlands has a vacancy for a fulltime PhD student on the topic of Joint models of longitudinal and
survival data incorporating environmental influences to predict lung disease progression and pulmonary
exacerbations in patients with cystic fibrosis under the supervision of Dr. Eleni-Rosalina Andrinopoulou
and Professor Dimitris Rizopoulos. This is a fully funded position for a period of 4 years, starting from
October 2019. This position is primarily focused on research, but the PhD student will also be expected
to assist in the teaching and consulting responsibilities.
The department of Biostatistics is well known for its innovative statistical research in analyzing complex
data structures (longitudinal and survival data, correlated data, missing data, censored data, Bayesian
techniques, smoothing techniques, etc.).

Profile of Successful Candidates
Successful candidates are expected to have a strong background and preferably hold a master’s degree
in Statistics/Biostatistics or a related field. Knowledge of mixed effects models, survival analysis,
Bayesian statistics, R or C++ will be considered a plus. A good command of the English language is a
prerequisite.
