A position in biostatistics is open at the Center of Biostatistics for Clinical Epidemiology at the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Milan-Bicocca (located in Monza) to work on the project “IDEA: Innovative DEsigns and statistical Approaches for biomarker development”. There will be also the opportunity for extended working visits at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm).

The candidate will work on the development of novel study designs and statistical analyses for the different phases of a biomarker development process, mainly in the presence of a survival outcome. The work will include both methods for the evaluation of the impact on outcome of promising biomarkers measured once (i.e. at diagnosis) and methods accounting for the longitudinal measure of the updated value of the biomarker. The methodological effort will be paralleled by various applications, especially in the field of oncology, where the Center of Biostatistics for Clinical Epidemiology has the main experience and many national and international cooperations.

The University of Milano-Bicocca was born in 1998 and it is a dynamic and multidisciplinary university especially oriented to research in medicine, biology and biotechnology. Very recently it has been classified among the top ten of Italian Athenaeums for the quality of research by the National Agency of Research and University evaluation (ANVUR). In particular, the School of Medicine and Surgery is a research institution which brings together a wide range of knowhow and experiences in the following fields: biostatistics, epidemiology, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, diagnostic imaging, nursing care, midwifery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, neurosciences, internal medicine and surgery.

The Center of Biostatistics for Clinical Epidemiology provides the methodological and statistical support to the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials, observational studies and clinical registries. It has a broad experience in collaborating with clinicians, pharmacologists and biologists to define protocols and procedures for research studies in many different areas. It is an interest of the Center to foster education on the methodology of clinical/biological research with all non statistical researchers involved. The Center also aims at developing novel statistical approaches to address the issues generated by the progress in medical, biological and genetical fields and to develop novel biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis.

Applications must be submitted by 13 January 2017, 12:00 PM.
