The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin in Fall 2016.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, develop an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.

Full consideration will be given to applicants with research interests in any area of statistical applications, theory, or methods.  Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of collaborative work in the natural, social, biomedical, or computational sciences.  The minimum qualification is a doctoral degree; strong applicants whose primary degree is not in statistics, machine learning, data science or a related area will also be considered, as long as their research exhibits independence and excellence in one of these areas.

The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences currently has 14 tenured and tenure-track faculty in statistics and machine learning whose associative affiliations encompass biology, business, computer science, and mathematics. The Department is growing rapidly into a globally recognized center of excellence for research and education in statistical methodology, applied statistical modeling, computationally intensive statistical methods, and machine learning. The Department has access to world-class computing resources through a partnership with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), as well as abundant opportunities for interdisciplinary research at one of the most intellectually vibrant universities in the country. The Department is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty and staff committed to teaching and working in a multicultural and diverse environment. We are therefore interested in candidates who will contribute to such diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service. We strongly encourage applications from women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and covered veterans.
